About Me

• In hindsight, I now realize that my Dad's love language was photography. He photographed us all obsessively. Although we groaned and whined, I intrinsically developed a connection between a camera lens and love that has stayed with me my whole life.

• I majored in Photography & Sociology for my undergrad at NYU. I was fascinated by the evolution of American culture post-WW2, and telling stories of current events through photojournalism. My favorite professor, NYT Pulitzer prize-winning photojournalist Angel Franco hammered into me that successful photographs were about emotions. Before we took a picture, he encouraged us to take a deep breath, be clear about our feelings for the subject, and let that flow through the camera.

• After graduation, I took a 20y professional detour through fashion, accessories and home decor, including 13 years running my own company, alexandra ferguson. As a small business owner who invariably had to wear all the hats, I got to work with some amazing professional photographers and eventually took all my own product and lifestyle shots.

• My husband Matt and I got married in 2015, and we have two young children named Henry and Ava. We started in Brooklyn, did a few years in New Rochelle (where I grew up) and have finally settled now in Chappaqua.

• Although I have always instinctively documented my life with photos, my own photography love language became clear after my son was born in 2016. I can safely say that nearly every day of my kids lives has been preserved on my phone. I was ready for a career shift, and one sleepless night I had my a-ha moment: I should tell family stories through photos.
